The Round Image Gallery

Although we rarely see round photographs in contemporary work it is important to remember that round compositions were often seen in early processes such as Daguerreotype and Tintypes, and in the early years of the snapshot era the original version of the Kodak Brownie camera the camera had an internal mask that produced round images. Many contemporary photographers who make round pictures use the technique to enhance depth and relationships within a photograph by emphasizing near-far relationships that enhance depth and relationships within the composition. In a page from his web site my friend Sam Wang provides a personal interpretation of the question, “why round.”
